Dantes inferno Canto 1 Halfway through his life, the poet Dante finds himself wandering altogether in a inexorable forest, having disoriented his way on the true grade (I.10). Virgil replies that the she-wolf kills all who approach her solely that, someda y, a magnificent run will come to dock the she-wolf back to stone pit, where she originated. He adds that the she-wolfs presence necessitates the use of a different path to find the hill; he offers to perform as Dantes guide.
