Many Filipino-Americans have absorbed the paramount US culture, which prevents them from understanding the realities behind their own migration witness, decolonizing their thinking, and developing their unity with all poor people of color. Just before the end of the 19th century, America declared war on Spain. This was its first armed bid to make its presence felt in the Asia-Pacific Region. In reality, the Spanish-American war was not so much a war as the scripted transfer of the Philippines and Cuba to the US, without loss of American or Spanish lives. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, in which the Philippines was sold by Spain to the US for the grand total of $20 million, or $2 per head for 10 million Filipinos. After defeating the Spanish colonial government, Filipinos were forced to wage other war, this time against the US invading forces. Financing Health Care In The US Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Financing wellness Care In The US - Term Paper Example wellness insurance can actually be availed through an employed individuals employer or through the employers of either the spo enforce or parents, as applicable. Health insurance can also be purchased individually depending on ones capacity or financial status, and the required scope and contents of health insurance coverage. The problem is eminently evident for those Americans who are unemployed and could not afford to purchase health insurance coverages. Further, those who are employed also favor to drop insurance coverages because of two reasons as pr declareed by Siegel, Mead and Burke (2008), to wit (1) the number of employers offering health insurance benefits to their personnel (including beneficiaries) hold back probatoryly declined and (2) those employers who offer health insurance benefits have opted to require increasing amounts of employee participation in premium payments, which are deemed by employees as virtuall y unaffordable. A more structured and plausible approach was recommended by Flier, who suggested that veracious and effective reforms could only provide the needed solution to the health care dilemma when the root causes are truly identified. In his article, the root causes were identified as the unjust employer-based tax advantaged system, restrictions and overregulated health insurance market, and the presence of both Medicare and Medicaid programs. In this regard, Flier recommended the following a restructuring of the tax shelter system to encourage change magnitude players in the delivery of both health care and insurance to decrease the exorbitant health care costs and to evaluate and closely review the first step of reforming both Medicare and Medicaid programs in terms of the kind and quality of expenditures, as well as closer screening of the beneficiaries to determine alternative options for cost reduction and the use of cost effective interventions, in the long run. The objective of the essay to proffer relevant and critical issues pertinent to financing and the delivery of health care go in the U.S. was hereby accomplished through provision of the current status of health c are in the U.S. prior and by determining the significant components in health care expenditures that are the real culprits of the health care dilemma. The proposed measures to reform the health care system in the US using strategies and plans should encompass policies and regulations that have the ultimate welfare of the population in mind.

How I Would Direct Act 5 Scene 1 From Macbeth Essay Example for Free

How I Would Direct Act 5 Scene 1 From Macbeth EssayIntroductionIf I were to direct a new transformation of Scene 1 of Act 5 in Macbeth I would make it a newfangledised variance. The characters would wear modern clothes and live in modern surroundings and the story would have to be slightly change to fit this modern setting. I think that I could still let the characters use archaic manner of speaking as in the original Macbeth script. The opinion would be less starchy as it seems to be in the RSC version, it would be a lot to a greater extent relaxed. I would try to make the circumstance more interesting for younger throng and the target audience would be around 12-18. The film would not be a comedy or an action film it would be a catastrophe film. To make the chance interesting for this audience I would have to change many parts of the cyclorama deal the camera angles, colours and costumes.CastingI would corresponding lady Macbeth to be a small person who seems de fenceless only has a strong mind rather like Sarah Siddons who first play the part of skirt Macbeth in 1785. dame Macbeth would be a genuinely harsh person who deteriorates throughout the film and in this particular medical prognosis is rattling weak, defenceless and also real stressed. She would not be as old as the noblewoman Macbeth from the RSC version and would be a lot more like that of the Polanski version. She will also look very pale as she is worried about what she is going to do and she will also have make-up on so she looks tired with bags under her eyes. Also in this scene would be the Gentlewoman who, in my version would be like a wet-nurse in a large modern houshold. She would be kinda large (but not too big) and she would be a very fri kiboshly and comforting person who was very lively and hyperactive. The maidservant would be a very sure and decisive person who would be confident in her own decisions. Also the Maid would be very reliable and a trustworthy p erson. She would talk a lot in the scene and would be very loyal to Lady Macbeth. She would be very shocked by Lady Macbeths unusual behaviour just like the Gentlewoman in the RSC version. You would be able to see her concern for Lady Macbeth in the actors eyes. The Maid would probably not be English as many Maids in modern times are from foreign countries. The last person to be cast in this scene would be the prepare. In my version the physician would be a very sympathetic man who cares for his patients he would reassure the maiden over and would be very informed and helpful for Lady Macbeth. As with the maid the doctor would be very shocked and would be worried by Lady Macbeths behaviour unlike the doctor in the Polanski version. The doctors would look very professional but also very caring. The doctor would also be a quite an old man.CostumeThe costumes in my scene would be quite light and modern and would not be too dark as I panorama the costumes used in the RSC version were (or was that because it was in black and white?). I think that Lady Macbeth would wear a night-gown or something similar and would have dour hair, probably blonde unlike the RSC version as I did not think that short brown hair would fit with my scene or settings. Lady Macbeth would be quite small also, giving the impression of a defenceless person. The Maid would be wearing the typical maid clothes, probably a arrange that was white and blue or black She would be holding a tray of some sort with drinks on. The Doctor would probably be wearing a Hugo old geezer suit and have grey hair. He would also wear small glasses that he would wear on the end on his nose which is ever luffn as a sign of intelligence. He would enter the room with a black suitcase and would have a professional image. I would also like the Doctor to have a small beard aswell.MovementIm my scene the Maid and the Doctor would enter the bedroom of Lady Macbeths house quickly and as they were walking the would be talking. Then Lady Macbeth would enter rubbing her hands in a jerky way and very quickly like the Polanski version. Lady Macbeth would be shivering while the Doctor and Maid were looking on at her. Then Lady Macbeth would go to bed talking in her sleep. later on this the concerned Doctor would exit and the scene ends.Language And PerformanceIm my scene Lady Macbeth would have a quiet tone of voice and would whisper some of her lines. She would not cry out as loud as in the RSC version as I think that it was a bit too enlarged in that interpretation of the scene. The tone of her voice would be horrified and frightened and would be very alarming to watch. Her voice would be as if it was on the butt on and she was about to snap and go completely mad. She needs to show fear aswell when she says Hell is murky because this is showing her fear of death and going to hell for what she has done. The Doctor in this scene would be calm on the outside but he would feel very shocked and he wo uld be asking the Maid questions very quietly almost whispering. The Maids tone of voice would also be shocked and she would almost scream from seeing the distressed Lady Macbeth. She would look away(p) and would seem to be suffering pain from Lady Macbeths suffering. Her voice would show this. I think my version of this scene would be more emotional that the Polanski version but less emotional than the RSC version, it would be a balance between the two. Even though it would be set in modern times the language would remain the same as the original Macbeth script and no parts would be edited from the scenes except for censorship.I would direct some parts of the scene to be how I want them to be shown. At the start of the scene when the Doctor says What have you heard her say the Maid must look extremely worried about what she might tell the doctor. As Lady Macbeth walks out the doctor and Maid will talk in a whisper so that they do not disturb her. Lady Macbeth must look alone and have a blank look on her face. When she says Yet heres a piazza referring to the blood which cannot seem to be removed from her hands she must seem angry and frustrated but also sorry for herself. It should seem as though Lady Macbeth is announcing her troubles. The Maid must seem very forgiving and concerned at this point. As the speech of Lady Macbeth goes on she needs to get more and more built up before crying at the end (but not too loud as in RSC).Camera AnglesMy version of this scene would have a long shot of the Macbeth household at the start of the scene and then would have close ups of the characters faces as in both the Polanski version and the RSC version. This way you can see the characters faces close up so you can almost see what they are thinking. I could also have a Lady Macbeth camera where there is a camera that seems as if it its inside Lady Macbeths head, showing what she sees and hears, this would let the audience know what Lady Macbeth was thinking and seein g and would pretend them more in the film. For example when she is trying to wash the blood off her hand but in her dreams she cannot, I could switch to the Lady Macbeth camera to show her saying Out, damned spot And showing the camera pointing at her hand with the blood on it. Then I could switch back to the bemused Doctor and Maid wondering what is going on. I think this would be a good way of showing the scene.Relationships With Other CharactersLady Macbeth in my cut of the scene would be very close to her Maid and they would care for each other. The Maid would care for Lady Macbeth a lot more than Lady Macbeth would care for the Maid because Lady Macbeth is in my version a very harsh person who does not care much for anyone except for her husband Macbeth. The Maid would be exceptionally loyal to Lady Macbeth and follow all of her orders. The Doctor would also be very caring for both characters and he would trust the Maid although he would be slightly confused as to what is going on and he would rely on the Maid to inform him.Staging, Setting and LightingI would set the scene in the Macbeth household which would be in the Scottish Highlands. As the setting is so modern the story before this scene would have had to be altered slightly for example instead of killing the King, Macbeth could have killed his boss and become the Manager of a company. The house would be very large and modern and the scene would be mainly set inside Lady Macbeths bedroom. The furniture would be very expensive and modern and the room would be quite light but would have red curtains which the sun would shine through making the whole room seem the colour of blood which would symbolise danger and insecurity. The bed would be a very ornate but modern four poster bed. The Macbeths would be a very upmarket family. This setting would be very contrasting to the setting of the RSC version which seemed to be set on a stage with not much scenery. My version will be alike the Polanski version in that it would be in a proper film set. I would also have a good soundtrack that was one of the things (I think) was missing from both versions of the scene that we saw. The unison would be included in the scenes to create more atmosphere but it would be good music that would add atmosphere without really being noticed. planetary ImpressionThe general impression hopefully made from my scene would be that the audience feels sympathetic towards Lady Macbeth. They should be drawn in so that they end up feeling sorry for her when earlier on in the play they thought she was a deceitful and cold blooded person. It should show people that you patois hide murder or at least she couldnt. I would also keep ideas of blood, sleep and water in the play as these devices add to the play of the film.

Stanislavski Essay Example for Free

Stanislavski Essay* Realistic sign of the zodiac has been dominant for the past 100 years, on cinema and portray. * The idea is to create believable characters and situations and t= trust the illusion of real life * It makes the audience believe what they see/hear and become referd in the play * This style evolved during the twentieth century, moving to selective realism (focus on particular characters and events) and magical realism (similar to realism but with magical/supernatural elements involved). * The movement of realism in theatre began in the nineteenth century to move away from melodrama. Stanislavski started this through he creation of his own theatre company. * Born in Moscow 1seventh Jan 1863* Well educated as a child and often went to the opera and theatre. Took his name as Stanislavski in a amateur theatre in 1885 * Joined a group and tell/acted in plays, did non enjoy melodrama as much * He met with a successful playwright to discuss ways of changing theatre and as a result the Moscow arts theatre was created. * Its production were famous and a success.* In 1906, Stanislavski also began to rebel a system to train actors, in 1912 habilitate up a studio to experiment with these techniques and continued this for the rest of his life. * The Moscow arts theatre toured Europe and Stanislavski work was known worldwide. * He suffered a tenderheartedness attack while acting and gave up acting, instead focusing on training actors and writing books on his techniques. * He died in Moscow on 7th august 1938. Most influential director developed a whole style of staging and acting that worked. * He experimented with himself and actors to develop his work and performers. Teaching them to pursue and exercise their creativity.* Theatre of living experience- actors had to believe everything happening on stage and what they were doing. Actors needed to have self-control and intensive training. * Aims of the techniques were all the same develop creativ e intelligence, complete self-discipline, control over their voice, diction and physical movement and experience and create human emotions. * Insisted that the actors made their own techniques too * He was super dedicated and demanded the same of his actors, made them repeat scenes if they were not real enough. * Had integrity and was willing to accept ideas and techniques but only did what he believed in. * Refused to do propaganda plays, even if it meant death. til now he was rewarded, as they believed his almost scientific experimenting fitted with communist theory. He was honoured well I his own country.Grotowski * Transformation mixture of realism, surrealism and ideological theatre. Actors transform themselves and the space representing not just characters but the entire context of the play location, sound, and the whole world of drama. Actors transform the imagination of the audience by changing themselves on stage. * Experimented with Artauds techniques, gust and mesmeris e the audience and Brechts epic theatre, strong political and social messages through narration, actors changing orles and simple objects to signify sets and locations. * Born in Poland. Setup a theatre in 1959 to study the way theatre worked, experimenting with staging and acting.* Through 1960s and 70s the company had brief tours overseas making his theatre and techniques world famous. In 1976 he moved away from acting and directing and worked with small groups to develop self-awareness and self-realisation using his techniques. * Even though he moved away from mainstream theatre, his parcel has been enormous and his training techniques and the most demanding and intensive. He also revolutionised directing and staging. * Grotowski always knew that theatre could not compete with v and films complex technical equipment. He eliminated these from his theatre and created a theatre of poverty where the important elements were the actors themselves and their relationship with the audien ce.* To make the relationship more intense, he abandoned traditional theatre building style and stage his plays in old buildings with small audiences. The actors and audience had to share the space. * He aimed to do what v and film could not and that was to bring the audience face-to-face with living characters and detain action. He directed the plays so that the actors were all around the audience and sometimes in their personal space. * There was failure in trying the physically involve the audience. Instead he arranged the space to make the audience completely involved as possible. * The plays he directed dealt with important issues and in many of the productions, the adorer was a Christ-like figure, tormented and crucified. He made the audience confronted with terrible questions. He said that the spectators of his show were researching for the truth about themselves and their purpose in life. * Often he would direct plays just to test out his new techniques.

Immortal Characteristics in the Iliad and the Aeneid Essay Example for Free

Immortal Characteristics in the Iliad and the Aeneid EssayAlthough written in twain distinct eras, The Aeneid and The Iliad offer views of the Trojan War, which meet been studied for centuries. The Iliad, written by Homer in 750-650 BCE, portrays the tale from the Greek point of view. Sometimes thought to progress to been a mythic person himself, the telling of The Iliad is attributed to him nonetheless. The story, written originally in ancient Greek, speaks from an omniscient narrator who can sh atomic number 18 all details encountered in the main character, Achilles, involvement in the war. Achilles has refused to fight in retribution for Agamemnon stealing his war prize, Briseis. The Aeneid, on the other hand, is kn make to have come from the Roman poet, Virgil. Although the main character, Aeneas, tells portions of the story, Virgil himself narrates the majority of the tale. Aeneas is traveling to Italy to build a race of Romans. Juno, who is still angry with the Trojans, sets Aeneas off course and the story begins with a recounting of the war itself. In the modal value the tales themselves offer varying illuminations on the same setting in Greece, the matinee idols represend share differing characteristics. In The Iliad, Zeus stands as the king of the theologys. He refuses to take sides in this war of men, although his favor moves to the Trojan side after Achilles mother begs him to intervene. We find Zeus bot presentd by the request. He is involved with domestic disputes already with his wife, Hera, and is slow to do each further damage to his solitude. Here is trouble. You drive me into open war with Hera sooner or later she forget be at me, reprimand all day long.Even as matters stand she never rests from badgering me before the gods I take the Trojan side in battle, so she says, (Homer, I.593-599). He does go on to promise he will do as she has asked, although the reader can sense his foreboding in doing so. His foresight is strong though , as Heras reaction is as he said it would be biting and harsh. Who is it this time, schemer? Who has your ear? How fond are you of secret plans, of taking decisions privately, (Homer, I.620-622). Zeus is portrayed as a beaten God, one who is verbally assaulted by his own wife and appears to be weary of her scorn. One can sense the laughter as the contrives are written, the hidden personalities that are so similar to common man.Jupiter, however, does non worry over what he will go through in person in order to grant the wish of the goddess who has appealed to him. With the serenity that calms the weather, and lightly kissed his daughter. Then he said No need to be afraid, Cy in that respecta. Your childrens destiny has non been changed, (Virgil, I.345-348). Jupiter has granted what she sought, and promises that her progeny will found the bulky kingdom of Rome, named after one of the twin sons to come from Aeneas. The reader can already discern discrimination for the Romans by this issuance of Jupiter. He is not a hen-pecked God as Zeus is, although Jupiters wife is not a timid creature. Much give tutorship Hera, she is vastly upset and carried a grave distaste for the Trojans. Jupiter, however, feels Juno will eventually relax. Juno, indeed, whose bitterness now fills with fear and torment sea and earth and sky, will fasten her ways, and favor them as I do, Lords of the World, the toga-bearing Romans, (Virgil, I.376-379).The reader gets the sense that the Greek Gods as told of by Homer are seen as folly. Zeus is not the al decently master, as one would suspect the king of the Gods to be. He is stuck between caring for his subjects, the minor Gods, and listening to the gripes and complaints of his wife, the telling is almost comical. Virgil, however, tells the origination of a heavy(p) race of tidy sum, his own Romans. The Jupiter is patient and assured of the greatness to come. His caring ways with his daughter and sincere belief that all will be as he said intimate his federal agency and greatness, showing him to be a true King of the Gods. The physical separation between God and mortal man is great. In the eleventh declare of The Iliad, we find Zeus directly interfering with the battle on hand. Now Zeus, the son of Kronos roused an uproar along his host, and sprinkled bloody dew from highest heaven, being resolved that day to pack great warriors in to the undergloom, (Homer, XI,58-61). The battle between Greek and Trojan forcefulnesss allowed yet another display of Zeus great power over man. Zeus demonstrates this power while protecting Hector.Hector moved forward with his round-faced shield. As from night clouds a baleful summer star will blaze into the clear, hence fade in cloud, so Hector shone in front or became hidden when he harangued the rear ranks his whole form in bronze aflash worry lightening of father Zeus, (Homer, XI.67-72). The soldiers recognize the ability of Hector to shadow himself as the protection of the Gods. Zeus otherworldly display of power and support for the Trojan take a shit signifies the equitableness of their cause, yet as we already know, his might is not good enough. Troy will lose the battle and the God is not all-powerful in the end.The Aeneid however, shows the true power and wisdom of Jupiter is not only just, but up to the task as well. Aeneas will reach his destination, and Rome will become the great power it is meant to be. Jupiter sees that Aeneas has travel sedentary with his love for Dido and remains with her rather than fulfilling his duty as Jupiter told him. The scourge of the earth is not brought down on his head to force him off the island. The all-powerful Jupiter simply sends a messenger, Mercury. From bright Mount Olympus he that rules the Gods and turns the earth and heaven by his power he and no other sent me to you, told me to bring this message on the running winds what have you in mind? the land of Rome are due, (Virgil, IV.365-375).Aene as is reminded of his family fortune and honor, which are on the line. True to his word and loyal to his God, Aeneas leaves Dido to fend for herself. Her misery and subsequent suicide are not given any thought by Jupiter, the mission is at hand and the great Roman peoples are far more important than a single female. Beating her lovely breast three times, four times, and tearing her golden hair, Oh Jupiter will this man go, will he have mocked my kingdom, stranger than he is and was, (Virgil, IV.816-820)? Jupiter pays her no mind the Roman Empire is at stake. Again, it is in silent action, verbal mandates that Jupiter issues his power. He is not forced to resort to mortal measures to ensure his will is done.Zeus is portrayed as the mover, the God who has to physically partake in things to get anything accomplished. The stronger God of the two, Jupiter, simply asks and gets what he wants. The fear of retribution is fierce amongst not only the people, but also the Gods. He does not tak e pity on the fallen as Zeus does. In terms of masculine strength, Jupiter is by far the strongest. Of course, such an amazing group of warriors, philosophers and artisans could never have come from so frowzy a King as Zeus.As the war wages on in The Iliad, Zeus is once again shown to be a weaker form than the mighty Jupiter. Achilles has lost his best friend, Patroclus, in battle. Heartbroken, he vows to return to the battle immediately to slay Hector in revenge. Although Zeus has long since gone to help the Achaeans in armed combat this war, Zeus took pity on them, saying quickly to Athena Daughter, you seem to have left your fighting man alone. Should one suppose you care no more for Achilles? The he sits, before the curving prows, and grieves for his dear friend. The other soldiers flock to meat he thirsts and hungers. Come, infuse him sweet nectar and ambrosia, that an empty stomach may not weaken him, (Homer, XIX.374-382). Athena then goes off to give the poor warriors some nourishment so they may fight bravely in their final battles. His heart still belongs to the losing side. We see his weakness again with the interference into the battle. In calling the Gods to Mount Olympus, Zeus tells them, You know what plan I have in mind and why I called you, why you are here.Men on both sides may perish, still they are near my heart. And yet, by heaven, here I stay at ease upon a ridge. Ill have an ample view here. But you others, go into action, side with the men of Troy or with Achaeans, as each has a mind to, (Homer XX.22-29). Zeus lazily tells the other Gods that the people are dying and it breaks his heart. However, he will sit on the mountaintop and take hold of the spectacle. They should go down and help whichever side they feel is just, but he will just watch. Homer again makes fun of the God. He is a spue potato during the war he was powerless to stop in the first place. His wife is constantly meddling in the affairs of state, and Zeus will not step in to act according to his heart.Jupiter does not have this problem toward the end of The Aeneid. When fighting has broken out in Italy and the great Romans are fighting amongst themselves, Jupiter is asked his opinion. He responds in a regal and self-assured manner. When he opens his mouth to speak, all of the earth responds in kind. The almighty father then, chief power of the world, began to speak, and as he spoke the great halls of the Gods fell silent, and earth quaked, and silence reigned in the highest air, the west-winds went to rest, the deep sea stilled his waters to calm, (Virgil, X.137-142). He has decided that fate will run each man his own plate. Jupiter no longer condones divine intervention. This surprises virtually everyone present, as they have interfered in these matters right from the start. Yet, the King of the Gods has spoken and it cannot be any other way. He took oath nodding, making all Olympus tremble at his nod. There was an end of speaking. Jupiter form his golden throne arose, and lords of heaven on each hand escorted him to the threshold of his hall, (Virgil, X.160-164).Although the King of the Gods in each depiction of the Trojan wars and its eventual outcomes acted in extremely different ways, the act remains that they were in tone down the entire time. The main protagonists for each tale are not afforded this same luxury. In The Iliad, Achilles never has control over his bloodlust for Agamemnon. His search for glory and the switching of sides is beyond his control so to speak. The usurping of his prize from the war damaged his pride and it is the sole driving force for him. When his best friend is killed, he appears to have devised a high purpose for his rage, yet the reader notes he is still guided for his own gratification throughout.Aeneas, blindly does as he is bid to do. He leaves his heart croup when he leaves Dido on the island. Jupiter is not concerned with the trivial matters before him, and concerns himself only with the Roman creation. Aeneas cannot simply believe that Dido will eventually understand what he essential do, unlike Jupiter feelings for Juno. The foresight the Gods portray separate them greatly from humanity, making the people seem as though they are simply pieces of a chess game, there for the amusement of creatures bored with eternity.Although Homer pokes fun at the God from the past and uses the tale to tell of the heroism of the Greek people, he fails to place his own God at the forefront as a just and caring ruler. Virgil at least shows the God of the Romans as one who delights in the magnificence of the race.Physically the gods are far superior to the men they control, but in the case of Zeus, he is far from being above the simple human frailty of emotion. Homer instills a sense of commonality between the people and their God, one in which the playing field is an equal one. The Gods are affected by this war almost as much as the people are. When interfering in the matte rs of men, the Gods are shaken to the core in some instances, harmed in others, and heartbroken other times still. For Virgil, the people end on the positive note. The great anti-hero is dead, and the true hero does not turn out to be Aeneas, but the Romans themselves. The reader sees throughout the epic poem, that Virgil had them in mind all along. The creation myth of the great empire seeks to solidify their place in the world and by showing that that creation came from a just and powerful authority he accomplishes just that.Works CitedHomer.
